Day one
- Feed the cats – easy enough, done this before – self feeder checked no cats in sight
- Muck the stalls – well, we actually cheater mucked the stalls – unable to locate wheelbarrow to carry the poo to the poo pile (found it later)
- Feed the horses – yeah! This is getting easier! Got the right amount of feed to the right horse! This is my stellar accomplishment of the day (Not as easy as it sounds)
- Now – get the horses from the pasture into the barn. DID remember to turn off the fence, teenagers are wonderful horse gatherers – done!
- Water, water everywhere! – It’s SOOOO hot! Gotta make sure everybody has fresh water – done! Hoses turned off – just in case my sister is reading
- rest for a few hours til it cools off enough
- Major accomplishment!!! Bridled, saddled and prepared a horse for riding!! Well, okay it was the absolute easiest horse to ready for a ride, but still – I am a bit spoiled to having my sister talk me through the tough stuff. Oh, yeah – also she made the barn “stupid proof” and labeled everybody’s bridles and gear! So, finally the teenagers got to ride a bit. They did great!
- So, what happens when you get cocky? Pride goeth before a fall, my friend! I thought I’d saddle up the sassy girl. Well, I DID get the bridle on despite her sassy self! Got her saddled up and got her out of the barn. And then, well – I decided that there are just times I NEED my big sister! I had already decided NOT to ride her today before she stepped on my foot! I think she lost her footing a bit when I was leading her out around the barn – either way, she’s short, but she’s fat! OW!
- Unsaddled and untacked my short little sassy girl horse, set her back in the stall until the girls were done riding and took my limping self back to the house.
- REALLY proud of the teenagers for taking care to set the horses back out and put all the tack away.
- I only messaged my sister twice! DAY ONE DONE!!
