This weekend, I didn’t “make” the teenagers leave their beloved internet. I didn’t call for the troops to come and help drag pine trees. I didn’t beg for helpers around the farm. As far as farm weekends go – it was rest. I took in a bit of the Heart of Pheonix horseshow Saturday morning with my sister. It was nice to watch Pride in the ring. It was nice to just be relaxing, watching anything! Hahahaha
The place is shaping up nicely. We had a local guy come get all the metal stuff that was just hanging around in the way. He will scrap it out, and I think that is great! His work really cleaned up the place a bit. We gained a whole stall in the barn that we had reserved for the metal stuff. The makeshift clothesline is now scrapped and I am ready to pick up the used set of real clothesline poles I purchased months ago. (I will try to get them this week Rosie) I really have to decide where those will go!
This is the new view from the back porch without the “clothesline”
We now have cleaned up the garage and the barn quite a bit. The little bikes now have a place to park. So, moving around is getting easier.
The guys worked Saturday on building barn steps. They were so nice! And then, I made a suggestion. My poor farmer man, he took them apart and plans to turn them the other way. I didn’t mean to cause more work, just thought the idea was a good one. He was a pretty good sport about it too! They will be nice steps in the barn. He cracks me up! He wants the kids to be able to get into the hay loft to play.
Eva was the only grand kid who visited this weekend, so she got a little special time. She and I ran transport for trash to the road, wood from one place to another, and poop. Never a shortage of poop to transport. We don’t even have an animal yet and I’m moving poop!
We showed a couple of friends around the farm, so we got in one good hike. I do try to to make both hikes on the farm each weekend. The “top of the hill field” hike and the “down in the valley” hike. Was able to make them both, so that was nice.
Next weekend the work picks up. We will be chipping up the trees that we have been cutting down for the last two months. There are a lot of trees, there will be a lot of chipped up wood. I hope to use that on the garden for mulch. We will see. I am excited to see the landscape cleaned up so we can see what progress we have made. It’s coming along.
Now, to take care of a few other “weekend projects” like a heater for the little house in Seth, tightening the drains in the house across the street, setting up the woodchipper, and planning to feed the army of family who I hope shows up at the farm for a Saturday workday! I won’t be able to be in the kitchen much, so I think maybe vegetable beef soup and taco meat/soft tacos/taco salad fixins. That should keep everybody fed and me out of the kitchen! I’ll let you know how that goes!
