Winter farming . . . still love it

This morning, as I headed to the barn (after the temp came above 0) to see if we had any babies and to let the goats loose on the acres for a few hours – I had on the following

long johns and leggins

carhartt socks (my favorite) and fuzzy walmart socks

one pair of winter boots ($30 pair at Tractor Supply)

longjohn shirt and t shirt

coveralls and sweatshirt

two knit hats, one face muffler (thanks sis, gonna order some more)

and one pair of warmish work gloves (this item could be improved)

My finger tips got cold, but otherwise, I stayed toasty through about 40 minutes in the barn.  Had to get bundled in case we had babies and I got stuck in there a while.

No one was downstairs to take my picture as I waddled off to the barn – you are welcome!  I’m sure it wasn’t pretty – but it was pretty warm!

heap of clothes

All of this gear lays right by the back door in a full and colorful display of modern farming winterwear giving the very occasional visitor to our farm the full experience of  “function ahead of formality” that is the defining mantra of this whole place!  So, it lays in a heap by the back door until I need to go let them back in this evening.  I am working on a better system, but for now the dining room is the dressing room for the barn runs!

Don’t tell farmer man I borrowed his hat!

I’ll post when we have babies
