Oh Well!

One week and counting since the indoor plumbing at Curvy Creek Farm took a holiday!

Necessity is the mother of invention.  I started feeling a little sorry for the teenagers carrying gallons of water between the houses, so we figured out a new system.

The secondary well thawed out after a few days of above freezing temps – so we put it to good use.  The cattle trough makes a great swimming pool!  Or, a holding tank for fresh water.  We haven’t had that well tested and the cattle trough probably wasn’t THAT clean, so I added some bleach for good measure and we can flush toilets, wash hands and faces, and dishes.  Nice!  One good clean bucket to draw the water up out of the trough and carry it to the right place works quite nicely.  Much closer than the next-door neighbors house!

We knew it was going to freeze and snow again, so this 100 gallons will have to do us for a day or two.  Farmer man brought home clean drinking water and we are set.

So, it is cold again and snowing.  That doesn’t keep farmer man from working on the problem some more and enlisting help!

testing the well

Well #1 – still not functional

Well #2 – frozen up along with all the hoses to get water from it

At the end of the day – no functional well.  Still hanging in there!  Power is on, heat is working well, plenty of warm clothes!

Hoping that the well issues are cleared up before baby goats start arriving, which we expect to start pretty soon!  We have a great family who always pitch in when we need help.  We are very blessed.

Oh Well!
