Snow days!

The view from my “wake up window” is beautiful!  The neighbor’s 4 board “fence envy” fence looks no less spectacular in the snow!  The foot prints of the joyful grandkids are scattered everywhere!  I wish they were all close enough for us to enjoy it together!

My van sits in the parking lot of the tiny white church at the top of the hill.  The excursion to take my grown daughter to work and get horse feed was a little more difficult than I had expected with the new falling snow.  With one car patiently behind me creeping along the “main” road, I took one good look at the downhill slide to the farm and decided – Heck NO!  So I turned off my blinker and called for reinforcements!

Even in the big ole 4 wheel drive truck, it was a bit un-nerving to go down the hill into the valley where the farm lay at the bottom, blanketed in much more snow than I had left that morning.  Glad to be home, I made the most of my snow day!

I enjoyed a day of quiet thinking!  Believe it or not, I don’t get many of those.  When it is quiet and no one else makes demands of my time – I love to work on my ancestry DNA puzzles.  Looking for the biological families of two different grandparents is fun for me, but requires well ordered notes.  I am not naturally well-ordered at anything!  So, I finally got to use my new “farm office” for what it was designed.

Elijah, age 6, comes in to see the new office and says:  Mommaw, you wrote all those names and put them up there?! – I find this fascinating!!    Elijah wins the gold star of the day!  Farmer man should take notes – where is that doghouse emoji when I need it!

Even after two years of DNA information, it’s a work in progress!  DNA test all the old people!!!!!  Upload their tests to gedmatch.com!!  Answer ancestry messages!!!  Not just me – everybody – seriously think about testing your old folks!

While I was stuck at this farm, and my sister was stuck in hers – they had 4 more goat babies!  They do have their hands full!  And, I can’t even get there to help out right now!

We had home-made chicken noodle soup for dinner.  Our goats never left the comfort of the barn – but we did the medicines, freshened the hay, treated with grain and tucked them in for the night.  I wasn’t even ready to hike next door in the several inches of snow, so I took a bucket bath!  One single gallon of water – one completely clean grandma – even washed my hair!

All of the “no-running water” set up is holding out quite nicely – but the trough is running low so there are more bottles lying around.  We can walk next door any time and get water if we run low.  We are thankful for that!

Hot cocoa and marshmallows stand ready and the heat is working – so we enjoy another snow day!  The teenagers are happy as long as the internet works and they have a good show recorded.  Come to think of it – I am thankful for the internet as well!  Now, back to those ancestry puzzles, there is an empty wall somewhere . . .
