It’s been a busy few days at Curvy Creek Farm!
You know, we’ve been on baby watch for several weeks now. The teenagers and I have been at the farm through all the snow days, days off, holidays etc. Waiting . . . waiting . . .Every morning before the girls would go to the barn we would have “what if there are babies” instructions. We were ready!
So, we had to come back to the house this weekend for the “girls day” prep that happens before the winter formal. The girls and I left the farm, farmer man had to come over to the house to take care of some maintenance etc. So we asked Jennifer and Jeremy to put the goats up. The baby granddaughter was riding back to the farm with Poppaw to join the rest of the grandkids and grown girls for a little “farm weekend”. It was our normal dance of who is riding with who, how is everyone getting everything done, what are we going to eat? You know, just barely controlled chaos!
So, just after farmer man left here, I called to tell the adult girls that baby Kyra was on her way over with Poppaw. I expected to talk to Jennifer, but I got to talk to Eva.
Me: Oh, hi Eva! Are you all having fun with Ally and Asher?
Eva: Yep!
Me: Can I talk to Mommy?
Eva: No, Mommy is at the barn.
Me: Is DeeDee (Lindsay) there?
Eva: Nope, she’s at the barn too.
Me: Well, I’m glad they are putting the goats up for Poppaw! That’s nice!
Eva: Mommaw! One of your goats had a baby!!
Me: Awesome! Which one?
Eva: I don’t know!
Me: Well, okay. When mommy gets back in, have her to call me please!
I thought – This is GREAT! The barn is currently being staffed by two girls who have never seen a litter of puppies born, never a cat give birth, not gerbils, birds – nothing! But, they are pretty smart, they’ve been mommies themselves – they should be alright. But, I think I’ll call for some barn wisdom!
My sister! I totally interrupted her Friday night visit with friends! I am so thankful that she would drop everything and just go monitor what was happening in our barn until Farmer man finished his 1 hour trip to get there. And thanks to her barn-knowledgeable friends who tagged along! this was the photo that FINALLY came across my phone while I hung out with the teenagers!

Jennifer, as it turns out, was putting up the goats with Lindsay’s help and just all of a sudden noticed an extra goat! She grabbed it up and dried it off. They did a great job with their first barn baby! When Andrea got there to help out, they had to figure out which goat it came from before moving mommy and baby to the protected space and allowing them a little bonding time. Millie, who is our most skiddish goat, might not be too excited about people, but she is a good little mommy. One goat, no ears, pretty darn big for a goat baby, but healthy!

While my teenagers completed their dance prep with friends, I finally got to go see the baby goat, the work going on in the barn, and enjoy the grands for a few minutes before min and Farmer man’s date night to the theater! – Which was a blast!
Here are just a few quick photos of the grade A barn crew!

I’m so excited that Millie had her baby, now if Ruby would hurry up..lol BTW the girls looked beautiful for the dance.
