Never say never . . .

My sweet grandmother passed on this little tidbit of wisdom.  I actually quoted this to my husband the other day.  I can’t remember what he was saying “never” about, but I reminded him that we have both eaten that word quite often.

Last year my sister had a goat that gave birth to 4 babies!  It was the coldest day of the year.  It was chaos.  It was the beginning of our goat baby learning process.  She brought all the mommies and all the babies into her basement.  I laughed . . . and said never!  Goats are meant to live in a barn, yada, yada, yada!

Somehow in wrapping my head around merging this “pretty house” life with the “muddy farm” life – I had always envisioned the pretty stuff working it’s way to the farm.  I’m pretty sure I never, not once, envisioned this:

We have been struggling with sick goats, we have saved some and lost a couple.  Repeated trips to the barn for meds and welfare checks have taken their toll.  All the other sick goats were grown, some were more than 100 pounds.  This time it is one of our babies that has fallen sick.  I can’t be at the farm, the boys can’t do 4x per day barn runs and work full time.  So, little Delilah is visiting the pretty house where she is happily munching hay until I go back in to give her shots again.  I pray for my goats, this one is no exception.  I don’t know how it will turn out, but I know as much as possible this baby is being spoiled out of her ever loving mind as I take care of her.  I will do all I can, and leave the outcome to God.

In the meantime, I sit here typing in a quiet house except for the sounds of one baby goat munching hay.  If she is doing better tomorrow night, she will be in the garage where I don’t have to listen to baby goat munching hay!

And just for fun, the newest kids have arrived:
