Babies, babies, and more babies!

I think we have found our limit.  35 goats is enough!  Except I think I have one more mommy to deliver in the next couple of weeks.

For as much as I HATE MUD!  I LOVE BABY GOATS!!!

So, I will hike it to the barn, in the rain, with a towel and shuffle the ever growing herd from one place to another to make a little private space for a new mommy.   Feeding time in the evening is getting right down ridiculous!  Everyone is confused because no one is in their right comfortable place – I know how they feel!

This is the very first time I have contemplated selling any goats!  We had the first 5 babies in January, and 8 more in February.  I love watching our goat families hang together and live in the extended family of the herd.

Remember that whole post about how cute it was that Charlie was flirting with the boys and they were flirting back?

goat dating – forbidden romance – absence makes the heart grow fonder – doesn’t seem too limpy right now . . .

I said – thank God for that gate!  Well, I think they figured out how to work around that gate somehow!  As far as I know they have never been out together, escaped and found each other, or managed to get into each other’s stall.   But, about a week ago I thought I saw an udder developing.   Sure enough, two healthy, beautiful babies this week!  Cute little accidents!  Pretty sure ALL the boys are getting fixed in the next week or so.

In the midst of baby goating, we are working to make the farmhouse a little more “our home”.   Anyone who has ever known us will appreciate how familiar these sights are!

We teased my mother about leaving that toilet in place and planting flowers in it.  She shot back – “Well, at least they will be easy to water!”  She does have a sense of humor!

It has been a long rainy, muddy, messy, tiring few months – but a few days of sunshine, a dozen or so baby goats, and progress in the personalization of the house is beginning to lighten the mood a bit.  Ah, I do LOVE those babies!

  1. Love the goats, and it really will look good when you finish the downstairs. What about the pole behind the toilet? Is it a support pole or can you do away with it?
