One day I will probably fully appreciate the automated water system that has nearly put me over the edge this winter. For now, I will praise God, and I mean that literally, for a week without rain, a brother-in-law and sister who are willing to help out, and some visual progress toward completing this project! ALL the gravel is now in place for the auto-water troughs. Just a couple more steps to go before water is automatically available for goats, cows, or otherwise.

The last expectant mommy goat (that we know of) has delivered.

It will be a blur of CDT shots, weaning, hoof trimming and health monitoring for a while – but all the cuteness is on the ground and looking fairly healthy. We are becoming open to selling a few babies – because 38 goats are A LOT!! They should do a thorough job with weed eating this year but also might require a significant amount of hay over the winter.

We are planning to share the babies with a church group in the coming weeks – that was SOOOOO much fun last year! I think it’s my favorite thing to do with the goats!

I always enjoy having little barn helpers, and baby goats are a powerful incentive to get up to the barn for a bit!
(doesn’t everybody wear heels and sweatpants to the barn?)
In addition to the real “farmy” progress, I am most excited to see a gravel drive from the house to the barn bridge! Oh, the civility of being able to get to the barn without wading through mud 8″ deep! It’s not that I expect to stay clean on the farm, but I could stay MORE clean – that would help!

All in all, it has been a great farm week. The mud is less, the sun has shone, the babies are cute, the air was cool while the work was being done, the last child is learning to drive, I have been able to spend a few extra days with Farmer Man – so I am feeling blessed! I know I AM blessed, even when I don’t feel it so thoroughly – but it is nice to feel it!
Thank You Lord for continuing to abide with me – even when I am unthankful and whiny! Thank You for drawing me to a place where my heart remembers how close you always are.
