Settling in to full time farm life

Settling in to full time farm life is much easier when the blueberries are ready to pick at Herot Hall Farm down the road! They are extra tasty and a popular treat!

A treat we totally deserve after the second round of antibiotic shots for one of the calves! We are getting better at this process, and/or the calf is getting less nervous because we didn’t kill him the last time! Still, I’m pretty sure that the list of “things that we need to make farming a little easier” has grown to include at least a headgate.

The tool room (soon to be laundry room) got the once over – thank you Mom and Andrea! The kitchen now houses some of my real pots and pans! And, each room is a little cleaner and homey – but, the garage – still a bit overwhelming!

I was too busy wrestling the goats to get too many photos, but some of the family came up to see the farm and meet the goats! (Glad I did a bit of that house cleaning!)

Renee’ was not terribly friendly, but she would eat out of everyone’s hand. Feeding all 38 goats on the goat toys in the tot lot did prove to be entertaining as we all watched the goats play “king of the hill” and “that’s my pile of food” for a while! It was nice to have a bit of company!

The farm will be happy that we are a little more focused now! The barn is in quite desperate need of an overhaul, the goats all need their feet trimmed, and worming needs to happen. As we went up the hill last night, we realized that the cows had drank the trough down to almost empty – our poor little goldfish were in about an inch of fairly muddy water. Those three little hardy goldfish were quite happy to have moved themselves to the top of the priority list! They were much happier with a cleanish trough and nice fresh water!

Our little visitor – he must have been stuck! Once Farmer man freed him from the rug, our “door guard” was gone. He was pretty – except when I forgot he was there and he scared me to death!

The list of chores, and the story continues . . . We will check in again soon!
