I was convicted by a 4th grade science book! I want life to be easy. I think everybody wants life to be easy, but we lost that privilege in the garden of Eden! We are called to work, to be caretakers of the things God has allowed us to have. So, whether I like it or not (this last few weeks, decidedly not) part of my “calling” is to be one of the caretakers of this 30 acres and all of the loud, obnoxious, food-beggars that are enclosed within. I am still fairly certain it is not all I am called to do, but I am still working on that part.

In the name of being good caretakers – it was past time for hoof trimming. When there are so many hooves to trim, it takes more than a day – and like everything else right now – it is noisy! Still, it is nice to have some one on one time with each goat, get a good look at them, love on them – whether they like it or not.

Charlie – an old pro!
A baby foot – before and after trim

Making a little progress in the house – hopefully more progress here when the weather gets too bad to play on the tractor!

All progress is progress – no more toilet in the living room!
As we were working on the tractor up the hill the other day, we wondered why we didn’t see any of the animals. They are usually TOOOO NOSY! Apparently, we have secret agent cows – too nosy to run, too afraid to get near the noisy tractor!

secret agent cows
I am convinced that farmers who try to farm without a good long running conversation with God are crazy! There is so much to worry about – or to bring up in prayer and then trust God to handle! Last night, after dinner, we walked up to make sure part of the fence was still working. On our way up the hill, we discussed whether or not we had enough good grass growing to support our cows and goats, whether all that we were doing to grow grass was working, whether we have left the cows too long in one place, whether the water was in the right places, where we needed to enclose next so that we could keep expanding pastures, what to do about a limping goat, how we could fence another area . . . One ten minute walk reminded me that there’s just too much to attempt without God and this isn’t even our livelihood!
****Because we have grown so quickly, and in the interest of keeping only what we feel like we can be good caretakers for – we will be selling some baby goats. Working up photos and prices
