Farming continues – getting ready for winter

Several days of fence reinforcements and countless trips to the top of the hill only temporarily solved the wandering goat problem!

I found another place they had pushed the fence out of whack and just went under. I had to make use of this uncomfortable temporary gate to go after a baby that wasn’t coming along with the herd. Not fun – funny – but not fun!

Going to retrieve the limping baby goat – farm life is never dull

Our neighbors have been pretty patient, but we’d like to be better neighbors!

Back on our side, not happy that we closed the hole

So, we keep working and they are grounded – back to the inner circle where we can easily see the herd and the fence. We reinforced the inner circle fence and started feeding hay. Which worked for about 5 days, but at least now they are escaping into OUR yard! Heading out in a minute to move some mesh fence around and see if I can fix it some more! Eye rolls abound right now!

Ugh! Already feeding hay means we have to start figuring out where more hay is going to come from. Won’t be enough to last all winter this way!

Time to go, buddy! – FINALLY left the farm last Sunday

The goats will be spending more time in the barn, so we gave the inside a good once over – I am still sore from that effort!

We also cleared a section up that has been jumbled with junk since we got here. We didn’t get it all cleaned out, but we did clear the way to use the small door and make some room for a round bale of hay – if we find some. If the goats will come and go through the small door, we can close the big front doors and decrease the amount of air whipping through the barn. Helps keep them warmer!

A work in progress

We are working to get everyone’s feet trimmed so we can feel like better goat parents!

Farmer man practicing his mani-pedi skills last week

We had a storm blow through – and our farm became the trouble spot! The entirety of Clendenin Creek Road was out of power because one of our power poles snapped in half! A full day with no power, but a right nice crew to handle the problem. They did pretty good working around the herd and getting power restored!

Aaron came by for a visit and taught us how to make a simple, quick, good dessert.

Yummmmm!

Candice has settled into cosmetology. A great place for some mom and daughter time. The mani or pedi or haircut or facial is just a perk! The pedi lasted quite a while, the mani lasted until all that barn cleaning!

quality mom and daughter time!

Lexie came by Tuesday to help for the day. We worked hard, but I didn’t get any photos! Thanks, kid! The garage is much more useful now!

I’ve had the chance to visit a bit with Lindsay – without photos. It’s always a good day when I see the kids or grandkids!

Farmer man actually has a day job, and I enjoy it when he crosses paths with Jennifer and I get a mid-day photo!

Think I might frame this one – I think she might look like her dad!

In the middle of all the farm stuff, is the house stuff. We are making progress! But, progress is sometimes quite messy!

The prepping for winter continues, the farmhouse renovation continues, the daily here and there continues. God is Good. I enjoy so many blessings!

Barn cat loving on Millie – He thinks he is a goat

The list always seems long and unfinished, but the adventures continue because we haven’t given up yet! Thank You Lord for showing Your loving kindness to me even when I whine!
