Always busy! But, still make time for the porch!

We have known for quite a while that the floor by our back door needed repaired. It hasn’t been the priority. Things have a way of making themselves the priority. Thankful for a great family! With Farmer Man still on the mend, the kids came over, the sister came over, Mom cooked dinner and we got started on destruction. We are pretty good at that part actually!

We managed to get the new plywood in, the new door in place, and the new flooring is finally (after 4 years of waiting) sitting in the house to be put down when the other little fixes are done. Thank goodness we taught these kids a thing or two!

The high tunnel waits for no project, so in the midst of holey floors and rubble, we gathered up 12 gal bags of tomatoes and they had to be processed.

So, I used my brand new toy and canned 15 quarts of spaghetti sauce.

I know now it is a pressure cooker not a canner, but it works at my altitude

Just a little bit proud of myself for that one! I was glad for a surprise visit from a friend (THANK YOU SARAH!!!) who helped me get through the peeling process, and for mom who joined in the fun! After a 14 hour day, lots of youtube videos, and a bit of nerves – they turned out pretty good. We tasted the jar that didn’t seal and were happy with the product.

Whew! That was A LOT of work!

The cucumbers and yellow squash are done now, but the tomatoes and peppers are still going strong!! We have kale and spinach planted which look pretty good so far. I got my very first ever green bean! Yay!! Peas are doing pretty well.

The baby ducks are not babies anymore! They have finally made friends with Lucky Duck and our plan has come together there. They all stay in the high tunnel at night together. They hunt bugs and stay safe, during the day they play around the farm.

The cows are supposed to be on their way out of here tomorrow – we shall see. I think we will not lose money this year! Yay! They look better now than when they got here, so some things have been successful even in the midst of our medical issues.

Farmer Man is more than half way through cardiac rehab. He is SLOWLY becoming more active. It’s a little bit of two step forward and one step back. His farming exercise and emotional therapy right now is taking care of the ducks which means walking up to the high tunnel in the mornings and the evening.

Some days he feeds the cows, some days that just isn’t possible. We are just taking it one day at a time, one task at a time, and being thankful for the time together!

Enjoying a quick run to Amish Country! Beautiful!
