It has been a while . . .

Well, the first change – and I wish I had some pictures for this one – the cows went to market.  Farmer man required a bit of consoling, but managed not to cry in front of the other cowboys – jk, hahahahaha.  I did take him out for dinner and desert to keep his mind off things a bit.  We didn’t do too bad, didn’t lose money.  I’m not entirely sure that all that work and poop in my driveway was worth the little bit of profit – but it was a great learning experience.  And, in reality, they did help the fields a whole lot, so it was a good investment either way.

The same day the cows went to market, the soccer team came over for a cookout!  The place was full, the goats were entertaining- of course – and everybody left with a full belly.  soccer farm porch

The work continues – Even though the cows are gone, there is still work to be done.  Farmer man is working constantly trying to clear more brush to make way for grass to grow once again.  The farm looks much different from the day we walked on to it!  I am still working on a before and after post.  Hard to dig up photos that show the progress clearly to someone who has never been to the farm!

The walnuts are crazy this year!  There are walnuts everywhere on this farm!  I am trying to just figure out how to do something with them.   I was able to show the kids what was inside.gathering-walnuts.jpgwalnuts and kids

I think we finally have enough hay for the winter and the barn is reasonably clean.

The goats have all had their hooves trimmed and it’s almost time to bring our buck back home and send my sister’s two goats back over to her place.

We are really not sure if we will have any new goats in February, or if we do whether they will be fathered by the right buck.  But, this first year, I am most concerned with getting a few more “weedeaters” – not with selling pure-bred goats.  We will see.  That will surely be an adventure – first kidding!
