Pleasant Surprises!

We have read many books about goats, goat care, pregnant goats, how to tell if they are ready to deliver, how to tell if they are even pregnant.  But, as everyone knows, we are new at this!

Ruby looks as though she could deliver any minute now, Livy is probably pregnant but doesn’t look like she is “ready to pop” . . . The barn conversation has been about babies for the most part lately.  Lilly didn’t figure into those conversations much.  She didn’t “look” pregnant.  Standing next to her twin Livy, Lilly was positively skinny!  I did mention the other day that it was possible that she was developing an udder.  Developing – not “wow, look at that udder – she must be going to have a baby soon”.

So, when we gathered in the kitchen to grab a bite to eat before returning to the on-going water problem, we looked out in the pasture.  I said, hey, the baby is out and Millie is stuck in the stall.  Jim said – Nope, that’s not the baby – it’s a NEW baby!

So, we led Lilly to the barn with a bit of feed, gave the baby a quick look and swipe with a towel, and gave them a place to bond together without the threat of the rest of the herd stepping on the new little girl.  Baby #2 – surprise little girl!

Which caused the work on the water problem to look like this:

nightshift well work

Somewhere around 9:00 last night Farmer man and I had some serious church!  We FINALLY have inside running water back on at the farm house!!!!!  I am impressed sometimes by my husband’s life skill, and in awe of the direction my life has taken.  My husband was quick to give God thanks for the breakthrough moment at the farm – out loud.  I really do love this man!  (Someone remind me of this moment the next time I’m running fence in 90 degree weather or herding cows out of my yard!)
