back on the farm

We’ve been weaning some of the babies from mommy milk. I would rather do it naturally and allow the mommies to decide they were done on their own. But, Ruby was looking a bit too skinny as she was feeding three. So, we pulled them off to the tot lot for a few weeks. This week was reunion time. The mommies and babies were so very happy to see each other!

It is nice to be able to let the whole mob out together now. The Mommies are more willing to go to the top of the hill since their babies are back with them, and Ruby with the herd makes them braver – she is the boss!

Wandering goats mean they are out and about on the acres, doing their job! Cutest weed eaters ever!

Came home one day to find the entire herd on the wrong side of the farmyard fence! At least they didn’t go to the road!

Wrong side of the fence girls!

Even though spring is lifting a bit of the “farm hatred” because the gravel is in, the mud is gone (at least for now) and I am enjoying the babies, some days are still a struggle to find that thankful attitude I should keep.

The automatic trough project is coming along – but trials should just be expected by now! Pressure testing the water lines showed a broken valve 36″ under the surface – bringing about an hour of digging and an entire afternoon of “parts hunting”. Projects abound on a farm – always! But, farmer man seems to have it fixed and we are getting ready for the next step in the project this weekend coming.

Ugh! digging up the broken valve

Completely unrelated: Every group of turkeys I have seen in the last few days have had the males with their tail feathers plumed out trying to impress the females. Interesting, and pretty to see.

look at me, look at me

Looking forward to some farm improvements, some home improvements, and some barn improvements. Now, if I could just find a way to get those things done instantly!
