God is SO GOOD

Very quickly Farmer man went from not being able to do much, to not being able to do anything. Thank goodness that Andrea and Bernie were able to help finish getting the high-tunnel up and running. (Don’t be fooled, even when he can’t breathe – he can BOSS!)

July was an endless game of phone tag between us and doctors in Charleston and doctors in Cleveland. I took a photo one day of him standing bent over the riding lawn mower, unable to walk another step and unable to catch his breath. I won’t share it, but just know that I have prayed some pretty specific prayers in the last month and God has showed up every time. Many people have been praying and encouraging us – Finally, we got Farmer man in to get his heart valve replaced.

Farmer man would like to have had instant recovery, but it is going to take a bit longer than that – even if they didn’t actually open his chest to replace it. We are just taking one day at a time and are both relieved that his new valve is functioning, and there is a bit of improvement each day. Today we made it to the high tunnel once and to the mailbox. It’s slow progress, but I’ll take it.

Farming stops for no one! So, while we were away, the plants were growing – and Andrea and Bernie were handling that. The goats were still getting stuck in the fence – ugh! – and David was handling that, and watering, and feeding. My mother loves me and had everyone working toward a surprise for me – a painted porch. We came home a day early and spoiled it, but it got done and I love it. I love the cleanliness, the color, and the fact that the free-range poopers can’t get up there now! Yay!!!!!

We are spending some of the down time learning new things, planning what crops we want to try out for the fall/winter in the high tunnel, and just taking a breath after a whirlwind month.

One new bit of information: Don’t sucker Roma tomato plants! Well, hmmmm. Guess I’ll quit doing that now! Live and learn. It will be late, but hopefully we will have a reasonable crop of tomatoes and peppers.
